Hildegard Brenner (born September 9, 1927 in Bonn ) is a German literary scholar .

Life

Hildegard Brenner received her doctorate in 1952 at the Free University of Berlin with a thesis on the theory of poetry by Hölderlin .

In 1963 she wrote her fundamental study on the art politics of National Socialism. At that time it was “one of the best and most well-founded analyzes that have been available so far about that early period of dictatorship… What material Hildegard Brenner spreads out on this, how exactly she uncovered the tactical tricks of the upright adversaries… - all of this is exemplary in contemporary historical research and their literature. "

In 1964 she took over the magazine alternative , previously under the title Alternative - Sheets for poetry and prose , published by Reimar Lenz and Richard Salis , in Skriver-Verlag Ansgar had appeared. The magazine now appeared under the title Alternative - magazine for literature and discussion , editors: Hildegard Brenner, Georg Fülberth , Helga Gallas , Klaus Laermann , Helmut Lethen , Hartmut Rosshof, Peter B. Schumann ; Design: Ulrich Harsch . In 1982 the magazine stopped its publication.

Helmut Heißenbüttel judged in 1978: "Alternative - for almost two decades a unique discussion forum for political criticism and progressive aesthetics, far removed from all dogmatics".

In 1967 her anthology on GDR literature was published , which gave West German readers a comprehensive insight into the literature of the other Germany. In a review of the Süddeutsche Zeitung it says: “This anthology has the undeniable advantage over many other anthologies and individual editions of showing what is different about literature in the GDR . Hildegard Brenner was able to show in her anthology that a national literature of its own was really developing in the GDR. Anyone who wants to find out how literature looks there will get information here. "

From 1970 to 1975 she published the literary series Collection Alternative at Luchterhand Literaturverlag , Darmstadt .

From 1971 to 1978 Hildegard Brenner was a full professor at the University of Bremen for literary studies and German studies.
