Helga Gallas

Helga Gallas (born May 6, 1940 in Altenburg ) is a German Germanist , journalist and literary scholar .

Life

Helga Gallas was born in Altenburg, Thuringia, as the daughter of the engineer Otto Gallas and his wife Frieda . She attended elementary school and high school in Halle from 1946 to 1958. In May 1958 she passed the school leaving examination . She studied German and journalism at the University of Tübingen and in Berlin . In 1969 she did her doctorate at the Free University of Berlin . From 1965 to 1982 she worked as an editor for the magazine " alternative ". From 1971 to 1974 she taught at the University of Hamburg . From 1974 until her retirement she taught “German Literature” at the University of Bremen with a focus on literary theory and interpretation methods at Faculty 10 (= Linguistics and Literature Studies). From 1993 to 1995 she was Vice Rector for Structural Reform.

Helga Gallas focused on researching the union of proletarian revolutionary writers and the controversies about realism in the journal Die Linkskurve , the use of structuralism for literary studies and gender research in literary studies.
