Thomas Metscher

Thomas Metscher (born July 30, 1934 in Berlin ) is a German literary scholar and philosopher.

Life

Metscher studied English , German , sociology and philosophy in Berlin , Bristol and Heidelberg and received his doctorate in 1967 with a dissertation on the Irish playwright Sean O'Casey . From 1961 to 1971 Thomas Metscher taught German literature at the Queen's University of Belfast . From 1971 until his retirement in 1998 he was professor for literary studies and aesthetics at the University of Bremen . He is co-editor of the contributions to the history of literature and ideas in Bremen .

Thomas Metscher - who according to his own statement knows that he is connected to the “theoretical type Marx” - receives invitations from various universities and institutions from all over Europe and overseas.

Metscher is a member of the German Communist Party (DKP).
