Dietrich Strothmann

Dietrich Strothmann (born July 2, 1927 in Berlin ) is a German journalist . He wrote many reports on Nazi trials in the Federal Republic of Germany and on the Holocaust .

Life

Strothmann was born in Berlin in 1927 as the son of a teacher and a pastor's daughter. His father was a member of the NSDAP and later worked as director of a trade school in Berlin and with the title of high school councilor in Breslau.

Strothmann grew up in the working class district of Berlin-Gesundbrunnen and attended the Gontard high school for boys . He was a member of the Hitler Youth . During the Second World War he was used as a flak helper , for the Reich Labor Service and as a soldier . After being a prisoner of war and graduating from high school , he studied history , German , art history and journalism at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster and was admitted to the Philosophical Faculty in 1958 with the dissertation The System of National Socialist Literature Policy. A contribution to journalism in the 3rd Reich to the Dr. phil. PhD ; The fourth edition appeared in 1985.

In 1959 he became a political editor at the Neue Ruhr Zeitung in Essen; In 1961 he switched to the weekly newspaper Die Zeit in Hamburg. He was a trial observer in numerous trials against Nazi criminals in the FRG a. a. in the Auschwitz trials in Frankfurt am Main and in the Majdanek trial in Düsseldorf.
