Georg Fülberth-Sperling (born September 25, 1939 in Darmstadt ) is a German political scientist .

Life

1959 to 1964 Fülberth studied German and history at the University of Frankfurt / Main . In 1964 he passed the first state examination for teaching there. From 1965 to 1966 he also studied political science in Berlin and Marburg and then went to Finland as a lecturer for a year . In 1967 he began his scientific career as administrator of an assistant position with Wolfgang Abendroth at the Institute for Scientific Policy at the University of Marburg. He did his doctorate in 1970 under Abendroth, in the same year he became his research assistant. Fülberth was Professor of Political Science at the University of Marburg from 1972 to 2004 .

From 1962 to 1966 Fülberth belonged to the SPD , from 1964 to its self-dissolution the SDS , since 1974 he has been a member of the German Communist Party (DKP), for which he was active at the local level in Marburg . For example, from 1990 to 1993 he was city councilor of the DKP in Marburg, 2001-2006 as a DKP member on the list of PDS district council members in Marburg-Biedenkopf, 2007-2011 also as a DKP member city councilor of the "Marburg Left" faction Marburg (2009–2011 parliamentary group chairman).

Fülberth's main research areas are the theory and history of capitalism , the history of the labor movement and local contemporary history. He publishes regularly in the Junge Welt , in Ossietzky , in concrete and occasionally on Friday as well as in Neues Deutschland and the DKP newspaper UZ . He also has his own column in the magazine Lunapark21 . Articles from this were published in 2019 in the Unter der Lupe collection . Analyzes and reflections on ordinary capitalism .

In his books, Fülberth deals with the history of the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic , the history of capitalism and socialism .

Fülberth calls his research branch “capitalism” and suggests establishing an academic subject of the same name. This should represent a cross section between social, cultural, legal and economic sciences and explore the properties of capitalism in the past and present.

1972–1979 and 1982–1991 he was on the federal executive committee of the Federation of Democratic Scientists (BdWi) .
