The German International School Jakarta (DIS) is a recognized German school abroad that leads from kindergarten to high school . With approx. 380 students it is the largest German school in Indonesia .

school

Most of the students are German children whose parents live in Indonesia, as well as children with German-Indonesian parents. Also Austrians , Egyptians , Spaniards and Swiss are represented. Only in the last few years has the school received permission from the Indonesian government to accept Indonesian students. The integration program of the Indonesian students is carried out intensively, and the first passed their school-leaving exams in 2008 .

In the 2005-2006 school year, DIS Jakarta was one of the first German schools abroad to begin carrying out a peer review as part of a quality offensive. DIS Jakarta has been an "excellent school abroad" since 2008. This seal of approval was awarded again in 2014.

School life

The school was located in the Menteng district from its inception and was originally called the German School Jakarta. In autumn 1998 the DIS moved into the new school premises in the modern satellite town of Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD), in the immediate vicinity of the German Center Indonesia . German families are now increasingly living in Bumi Serpong Damai, so the German community is well developed there. The school grounds can be regarded as one of the most modern in the world and offer various options for sports (tennis courts, 25 m swimming pool, multifunctional sports hall) and for music / theater (auditorium, music rooms). Besides for teaching purposes, these are also used intensively for the numerous working groups.

DIS Jakarta regularly takes part in the Southeast Asian Games of the German schools and the cultural festival of the German schools in Southeast Asia, which take place alternately every year in a different participating school.

The school's monthly newsletter was introduced around 1996 as "DIS Nachrichten". The format was changed in the 2002/2003 school year and since then the “Mail-Zeitung” has been sent as a PDF to pupils, parents, teachers and interested parties.
