history
The company was initiated on February 1, 1885 by the bankers Gerson von Bleichröder and Adolph von Hansemann , the industrialist Guido Henckel von Donnersmarck and the politician Johannes von Miquel . Furthermore, it was Friedrich Hammacher involved in the founding of the organization.
The DKGSWA was formally founded on April 30, 1885 in Lüderitz . Heinrich Ernst Göring , sent from Germany, was the first chairman of the society.
Chancellor Otto von Bismarck initially intended to have the protected areas administered entirely by colonial societies. The DKGSWA was either unwilling or unable to take on this task for German South West Africa. The society was therefore not given any state administrative powers, but only granted economic privileges.
