The Deutsche Musiktherapeutische Gesellschaft eV (DMtG) is a professional association for the promotion of music therapy and a professional association of music therapists in Germany.

history

It was created in 2008 from the merger of the German Society for Music Therapy e. V. (DGMT) (founded 1973) and the professional association of music therapists in Germany (BVM) (founded 1999). With around 1,500 members, it represents a large number of music therapists in Germany.

tasks and activities

The company is committed to the development of music therapy in practice, research and teaching. It advises and represents its members in professional law issues and in setting up music therapy centers. She advocates professional recognition of the music therapy profession.

She is editor of the quarterly magazine Musiktherapeutischen Umschau and the yearbook of music therapy.

Every two years it awards the Katja Loos Medal, with which people or institutions are honored who have made a special contribution to music therapy. The award is named after the German music therapist Gertrud Katja Loos . Previous winners include Hermann Rauhe , the Andreas Tobias Kind Foundation and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen .
