The German Olympic Academy Willi Daume (DOA) is a sports association based in Frankfurt am Main .

history

The German Olympic Academy Willi Daume (DOA) was founded on May 4, 2007 in Frankfurt am Main in the presence of Thomas Bach (at the time Chairman of the German Olympic Sports Confederation , later President of the International Olympic Committee ), the then Hessian Minister of the Interior and for Sport, Volker Bouffier and the then Mayor of Frankfurt Petra Roth . The facility named after the sports official Willi Daume was created by merging the tasks and resources of the German Olympic Institute and the Board of Trustees of the Olympic Academy and Olympic Education of the former National Olympic Committee for Germany and the Willi Daume Foundation.

At the founding event, Gudrun Doll-Tepper was  elected as the first DOA chairman, and Helmut Altenberger (as deputy chairman), Hans-Peter Krämer (as treasurer) and Manfred Lämmer , Sylvia Schenk , Klaus Schormann and Ingo Weiss (each as assessor) also admission to the first board of the academy.

tasks

The academy sees itself as a sponsor of "sport in its various facets and forms and in particular the Olympic idea", it makes a scientific claim and aims at a broad public impact. The focus is on dealing with “questions of the meaning and principle of the Olympic Movement”, including historical, political, social, economic and cultural issues. The goal is to be achieved through events, projects such as exhibitions and competitions, measures and educational offers (such as working materials for teachers and learners such as the brochures "Olympia ruft: Mach mit!"), Through statements on issues relating to Olympic sport and other publications as well as an advisory function German Olympic Sports Confederation and other institutions.

The supporters of the work of the German Olympic Academy Willi Daume include, among others, the government of the federal state of Hesse, the members of the academy include numerous state sports associations, specialist sports associations and other German sports organizations and institutions.

Events

The German Olympic Academy Willi Daume is, among other things, a cooperation partner of sporting events such as "Youth trains for the Olympics" and "Youth trains for the Paralympics", is involved in the implementation of youth Olympic camps and carries out training and further education events for students and teachers.
