German Central Pharmaceutical Library

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Central Pharmaceutical Library is a special library for pharmaceutical history literature. It is located in the Württemberg State Library in Stuttgart .

The holdings of the Central Pharmaceutical Library come from various sources. The foundation is made up of the former libraries of the three pharmaceutical associations, the German Pharmaceutical Society (DPhG), the German Pharmacists Association (DAV) and the International Society for the History of Pharmacy (IGGP), as well as a part of the books of the German Pharmacy Museum Foundation . In the course of its reorganization, the books of the IGGP have now become the property of the German Society for the History of Pharmacy (DGGP) and with it the obligations towards the Central Pharmaceutical Library. In total, there are around 20,000 monographs and loose-leaf publications, almost 2,500 magazine titles as well as offprints, pictures and calendars.

The library is financed and looked after with funds from the non-profit sponsoring association “German Pharmaceutical Central Library”. Members of the supporting association are the original owners of the book collections as well as several pharmacy chambers and other institutions. The library is financed today through the contributions of the association members.

The task of the Central Pharmaceutical Library is to collect pharmaceutical and pharmacy literature in order to document the development of the profession as well as scientific pharmacy . The focus is on literature relevant to pharmacy history.

The inventory of books has now been electronically recorded and recorded in the catalog of the Württemberg State Library on the Internet (code "24/1"). The literature can either be ordered from the Württembergische Landesbibliothek via interlibrary loan or used on site.
