The German Saatveredelung AG ( DSV ) is one of the leading German plant breeding company based in Lippstadt . The aim of the company is the breeding, production and sale of seeds and advice. The focus is on grass , rape and grain crops . To this end, the DSV has its own domestic and foreign plant breeding stations and works closely with partner companies. According to the company's own information, DSV varieties were grown on 20% of the German wheat areas in 2011.
Special products
- The winter barley variety Yokohoma, approved in 2008, was the first to be resistant to the yellow mosaic virus type 2 and at the same time to be classified by the Bundessortenamt with a yield rating of 8/8.
- In 2009, the variety Akteur had a market share of 73% in the e-wheat segment. It was cultivated in 2010 on around 4000 hectares of propagation area
- The company sells seed mixtures for direct sowing .

In 2007 the company had a turnover of 63 million euros and 340 employees. The annual turnover in the 2009/10 financial year was EUR 88.647 million. In 2018, DSV is one of the leading German companies in this segment with 600 employees and EUR 174 million in annual sales in the 2017/18 financial year. The company was founded in 1923. Around 800 shareholders, mainly farmers and employees, now hold the share capital of DSV, with the share being limited to 10% per shareholder. In total, more than 52,000 tons of seeds are sold annually by DSV and its partners.
Participations & Cooperations
In addition to the headquarters in Lippstadt, the company includes various seed breeding stations, a test station, numerous test centers and a comprehensive, regionally distributed branch and advisory network with its own processing plants, seed storage and distribution facilities. More than 820 seed multipliers produce DSV seeds under contract cultivation.
Market shares
The grass business accounts for almost 44% of DSV sales. This includes forage and lawn grasses, which are sold as individual components or mixtures. The DSV market share in the German rapeseed market could be increased to around 12 percent. In the German grain sector, around 15% of the propagation area is owned. DSV is the most successful winter wheat breeder in Germany with 11,100 hectares of breeding area.

Memberships
The DSV is an active member in the professional organizations. So it belongs u. a. the Federal Association of German Plant Breeders eV (BDP), the Association for the Promotion of Private German Plant Breeding eV (GFP), the German Agricultural Society eV (DLG) and the Union for the Promotion of Oil and Protein Plants eV (UFOP).
Internationally, the DSV is also represented in the corresponding organizations of the seed industry, such as the International Seed Federation (ISF) and the European Seed Association (ESA).
The company is a sustaining member of the GKB (Society for Conserving Soil Processing e.V.)
criticism
According to BUND , residues of genetically modified seeds were found in the rapeseed of the DSV as early as 2007. However, the DSV requested a B sample.
