The German School in Porto ( Portuguese : Colégio Alemão do Porto , DSP) is a private school founded in 1901 in Porto in northern Portugal . The DSP is located on Rua de Guerra Junqueiro in the Boavista district .
The school is a German school abroad recognized by the ZfA and follows the guidelines of the Free State of Thuringia and the Ministry of Education of the Portuguese government , the Ministério da Educação .
The encounter school , which is committed to bicultural education, was awarded the Excellent German School Abroad seal of approval in 2016 by a certificate signed by Federal President Joachim Gauck , as was the German School in Lisbon , the older of the two German schools abroad in Portugal.
More than 85% of the pupils are Portuguese as their mother tongue .
history
Today's DSP was founded on November 18, 1901. At that time the school had 21 German students. The history of the school begins in 1855, when Pastor Martin Richter inaugurates the “Von Hafe School”, a small school for children of the German Protestant community in Porto. The German School in Porto emerged from this institution.
free time activities
In addition to the usual sports facilities, an observatory is available to the students. There are also other activities:
- Sports encounter : Every year, the German schools in Porto, Lisbon , Madrid and the province of Málaga hold a sports competition in the disciplines of basketball, football, handball and volleyball.
- Jugend Musiziert : For this event, musicians from all German schools on the Iberian Peninsula meet for a music competition.
- Student exchange Oettingen / Porto : Since 2002 there has been a student exchange between the German School in Porto and schools in Oettingen in Bavaria .
