The German School Madrid ( DSM , Spanish Colegio Alemán Madrid ) is a German school abroad founded in 1896 and based in the Spanish capital Madrid . Like most German schools abroad, it is run by a private association and is financially and personally supported by the Federal Republic of Germany.

As a bilingual encounter school, it is committed to the idea of intercultural encounter. The lessons are given according to the German curriculum. An important part of the school is the "E-branch", with which pupils with Spanish mother tongue are given a side entry into the German School Madrid. At the moment 1700 pupils from 22 countries are taught. Each school year, more than 100 of them successfully complete their school education with the intermediate qualification (2%) or the general university entrance qualification (98%).

description

The school comprises the departments of kindergarten, elementary school and high school. The three-year kindergarten is aimed at children between the ages of 3 and 6 and prepares them for native-speaking German lessons in primary and secondary schools. Children with German as their mother tongue or good knowledge of German are admitted to the primary school, which has a bound all-day program. The lessons take place according to internal German guidelines. The Secundaria (Oberschule) with its open all-day offer offers three degrees: Hauptschule and Realschule end after grades 9 and 10 with a certificate recognized by the Standing Conference of Ministers of Education of the Länder. The grammar school ends after twelve school years with the Abitur ( German international Abitur examination ).

From the start, almost all subjects are taught in German at the German School Madrid. By the end of their school career, the pupils will learn two other foreign languages (English and French) in addition to the two languages of instruction, German and Spanish. In addition, they receive training in mathematics and natural science subjects as well as in social science and humanities subjects. Its own music school (Escuela de música del Colegio Alemán de Madrid) complements the musical education in regular lessons and the various school ensembles. International, national and in-school competitions (" Jugend musiziert ", " Jugend forscht ", " Jugend debattiert ", Mathematik Olympiad, sports meeting of the DAS in Iberia) as well as student meetings (including exchanges with schools in France, the USA and Germany) are also an integral part of the German School Madrid as a comprehensive enrichment offer in all areas of high school education.
