The German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation eV (IRZ) was founded in 1992 on the initiative of the Federal Minister of Justice, Klaus Kinkel , as a registered non-profit association. The headquarters of the IRZ is in Bonn, another office is in Berlin.

tasks

The IRZ works with institutions involved in legal and judicial reforms in almost 30 partner countries. The cooperation extends from the states of Eastern and Southeastern Europe through the MENA region to the South Caucasus , Central Asia and Vietnam .

In the context of legislative advice, the IRZ conducts expert discussions, supports the drafting of bills and promotes the training and further education of lawyers from all fields. To this end, seminars, workshops and conferences are organized in the respective partner countries. The focus is on the respective national legal reforms and German and European law . Furthermore, work visits, internships and internships in Germany are offered for training and further education purposes in order to enable a direct, practice-oriented exchange with German experts. As far as possible, the IRZ also promotes young lawyers by working with universities, be it through accompanying studies or seminars and lectures.

The IRZ is supported and supported in its work by the members and the Board of Trustees . These include personalities from politics, business, administration, science and the legal professional associations as well as companies. In addition, numerous other experienced experts from a wide variety of legal fields can be used. In this way, the IRZ guarantees technically sound advice as well as unbureaucratic, fast, flexible and coordinated support for partner countries over a longer period of time.

Client

The IRZ works on behalf of the Federal Government and is mainly financed from budget funds from the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection and through project funding from the Federal Foreign Office . In addition, the IRZ carries out projects within the framework of the neighborhood and accession policy of the European Union .
