German U19 national ice hockey team

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German U19 national ice hockey team is the selection of the best German ice hockey players who are younger than 19 years. It is organized by the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB); The national coach of the U19 national team is Jochen Molling .

The first junior internationals were matches of the U19s. Since at least 1954 there have been regular encounters between the German U19 and the Swiss U19. At the first official European Junior Championship in 1968 , the DEB waived the qualifying games. From 1969, Germany then regularly took part in the Junior European Championships of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF.

In 1977 the IIHF introduced the U20 World Junior Championship ; the European Championship was switched to U18. This is why the U19 national team usually only competes in one tournament in spring these days. This already serves as preparation for the U20 World Cup of the following year.
