The German Fistball Association of the GDR was the umbrella organization of the fistball clubs in the GDR . It was founded on April 27, 1958 in Leipzig and emerged from the fistball section of the German Sports Committee (DS). The DFV organized the GDR championships in fistball in the GDR Oberliga, -Liga and regional championships of all age groups. The association was a member of the German Gymnastics and Sports Association (DTSB) of the GDR.

In 1984 the association had 9,588 members. There were two association presidents. Edgar Wünsche led it from its founding until 1978, when he was replaced by Heinz Frankiewicz. In 1978 the bounce ball competition sport changed from the gymnastics to the fistball association (Commission bounce ball in the DFV). Heinz Frankiewicz led the association until he joined the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) in 1990 as part of the German reunification . The accession of the newly founded regional associations took place during the "German Gymnastics Day" on September 8/9, 1990 in Hanover , as part of the accession of the German Gymnastics Association of the GDR and took effect on October 3, 1990. In the Federal Republic of Germany there was no professional association for fistball at that time, so the DFV continued to exist as a section of the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) until the newly founded East German state associations took over the tasks and the German Fistball League (DFBL) as a body Founded in the organization of the DTB in 2004 and has been a recognized partner in the DTB for fistball since 2010.

The DFV hosted the 1967 European Cup in Zeitz and the 1971 European Cup in Hirschfelde .

The men's national team finished 3rd in the 1968 World Cup and 5th in 1990 . At the European Championships they reached 3rd place in 1965 and 2nd place in 1970 .
