The german ingenieurinnenbund e. V. (dib) is a nationwide feminist- oriented professional association by and for engineers , engineering students and women from technical professions. The aim of the dib is real equality between the sexes in training and work and increasing the proportion of women in technical professions.

Origin and organization

The association was founded in 1986 in Darmstadt . In 1989 dib joined the German Women's Council and is currently also a member of eight state women's councils . The dib has been regularly represented at the Hanover Fair since 1988 (initially in cooperation with VDI , VDE and DAB ) .

In order to develop international contacts, the association co-organized the “International Congress of Women in Engineering” (ICWE) in 2000. In 2001/2002 dib was one of the founding members of the International Network of Women Engineers and Scientists (INWES). a. forms the framework for the International Conference of Women Engineers and Scientists ( ICWES ). The ICWES conference (2008 in Lille , France ) was prepared by dib together with the French and British women's technology associations ( FI and WES ).

Most of the members of the association come from the fields of mechanical engineering , electrical engineering , civil engineering , process engineering , architecture , vehicle technology , energy technology , environmental technology and IT .

The members are organized in regional groups. The journal Die Ingenieurin appears four times a year and the info mail once a month to inform the members about the activities of the association.

In November of each year, the dib organizes a conference lasting several days, during which the annual dib general meeting also takes place.

Resolutions

The dib drafted the following resolutions:

  • Quota system (1988)
  • Human-friendly organization of working hours (1990)
  • Resolution on § 218 StGB (1991)
  • Demand to the federal legislature to change income tax and pension law (1997)
  • A woman in the highest office in the Federal Republic of Germany! (1998)
  • Educational Policy on the Threshold of the New Millennium - Women in Technology (1999)

and participated in the following further resolutions:

  • Resolution of the German Women's Council: Technology is lacking without women (2008)
  • Nuremberg resolution for more women in management positions (2009)
