The German House is one of the oldest houses in the monastery town of Rehna in the north-west Mecklenburg district . The half-timbered building is located on Bundesstrasse 104 at Gletzower Strasse 15 and is a listed building .

Building description

According to Dehio, the core of the half-timbered house on the gable dates from 1537. It refers to a lost inscription. According to the city website, however, the felling date of the oaks used was dated to the winter of 1569/70. The upper and attic storeys protrude through studs . Fan rosettes were used as a decorative element on the upper floor . Single storey towers roadside one being set for a renovation in the mid-18th century Utlucht forth. Inside, the original high hall and the house tree have been preserved.

The building with a field stone base has eight axes on the street side , three of which are drawn through the Utlucht. The extensions made to the left by two and to the right by one axis can clearly be seen. The saddle roof is covered by S-pans.

In an oak bar above the front door there is the inscription: "AVF IHM WIL ICH FEST BAVEN, ICH WIL (FEST) STAHN, WOL DEM WHO TRUST HIM", on the newer door board the inscription: "JOHAN JOCHIM KASSAU, DEN 24. AUGUST 1750. ANNA GERDRUT KASSOWEN, GEBO. ROTHLENDER ”.

history

The inscription in the gable beam, which is partly covered by the Utlucht, could provide information about the builder. It reads: “IS GOD FOER VNS.) WHO WIL WEDDER VNS SIN. ALL THINGS FIRST. GADES GRADE EW (IG) STANDS UP. HANS. SEEHASE. ”Behind it is a house brand with a cross-crowned triangle, a razor and scissors, which can also be found on a tombstone of the barber and surgeon Hans Seehase in the Kröpeliner church that was erected in 1577 .

The German House received additions on all four sides in the 17th century. In the 19th and 20th centuries, it was as a blacksmith and stabling with Schankrecht used and inhabited at that time almost exclusively by the family Grevismühl.

The protection as a monument in 1949 was followed by restoration in 1952/53. After the fall of the Wall , a subsidized renovation was carried out in several construction phases from 1998 to 2003.

The city library has been located in the German House since 2004. The Low German Association to Rehna e. V. , the cultural initiative Maurine-Radegast e. V. and the people's solidarity . Individual rooms are used for permanent exhibitions on traditional costume and shoemaking in Rehna and the surrounding area.

On Heritage Day , to Martens Man Arrested and on request guided tours.
