Development Cup

The IIHF Development Cup is an ice hockey tournament for national teams whose associations are members of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF , but which do not take part in the world championships. Its purpose is to help these countries, which often do not meet the criteria for participating in the World Cup, to develop further. With the IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia , a similar competition for Asian national teams has existed since 2008.

The competition is held annually with a different host. The introduction of the competition was decided in May 2016 at the IIHF Congress in Moscow on the proposal of the Andorra Ice Sports Federation . The first four participants of the competition took place in Andorra from September 29 to October 1, 2017 . The second event took place from November 19 to 21, 2018 with four participants in the German Federal Training Center in Füssen . The 2019 event was canceled because not enough teams had agreed. The venue would have been Füssen again.
