Devils & Dust (song)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Devils & Dust is the title track of Bruce Springsteen's thirteenth studio album, Devils & Dust . The song received critical votes and was nominated for a Grammy Award , also because of its Iraq war theme .

action

The song tells the story of a soldier during the US Forces invasion of Iraq in 2003. The soldier questions his role and seeks support in his mission, all the while suspicious of the changes he is experiencing.

I got God on my side, I'm just trying to survive - What if, what you do to survive Kills the things you love. Fear's a powerful thing ...

Unsure about whom he can trust in this time of moral ambiguity , his belief in God is tested when he sees his comrade Bobby die in "a field of blood and stone".

At the end of the song, the soldier wants to take a fair position and keep looking for a morally correct solution. Still, this is not an anti-war song in the traditional sense. The verse “I got God on my side” is probably a reference to Bob Dylan's classic anti-war song “With God on Our Side”.

The song was nominated three times for a Grammy, but only won in the category Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance.

Music video
