Dezső Losonczy
Dezső Losonczy (original name: Seffer Dezső István János ; born July 26, 1891 in Torontáltorda , Austria-Hungary ; † June 8, 1950 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian conductor and composer . In 1940 he was the director of the theater on Andrássy Street in Budapest.
Life
He was born in 1891 as the son of Antal Losonczi and Leopoldina Brettschneider in Torontáltorda (or Torda) in today's Serbian province of Vojvodina , formerly Austria-Hungary . From 1921 he lived in the VI. Budapest's Terézváros district , later on Nagykörút in Józsefváros District VIII . He was married to Mihályfy Ilona Mária from 1921 in his first marriage. Their son Andor Losonczy (1932–2018) became a pianist and composer. After the Second World War he married the actress Lívia Marsovszky (born 1919).
After Losonczy graduated from the Music Academy in 1916 , he was hired as a conductor at the Belvárosi Színház (City Center Theater) and the Andrássy úti Színház (Andrássy Avenue / Road Theater) in Budapest in 1918. In 1920/21 he worked at the Vienna Opera Ballet. In 1921 he came to the Apolló Kabaré (Apollo Cabaret) in Budapest. In 1924 he became a member of the cabaret theater Blaha Lujza Színház (Blaha Lujza Theater), which operated between 1921 and 1925 . From 1925 to 1927 he worked at the Royal Theater in Budapest, which was known for its operettas. He then returned to work at the theater on Andrássy Street, which specialized in cabaret between 1926 and 1937, and from 1937 it was continued as the chamber theater of the National Theater . From March to September 1940 he was director of the house. In 1944 the theater ceased operations.
Losonczy composed a. a. Ballets ( Hindu szerelem , Boszorkányszombat and Tűzimádók ), operettas ( Vihar a Balatonon (1931), Mennyei dal (1937), Szép az élet (1941) and Toldi Miklós (1944)), which were performed at the Hungarian theater from 1937 , and symphonic ones Music. There are also quite a few film scores among his compositions .
