Dhrangadhra was a 3010 km² princely state of British India in the northeast of the Kathiawar peninsula in what is now the state of Gujarat . The capital was the place Dhrangadhra . The predecessor State Jhalawad was 1090 Harpal Dev Mokwana, a Jhala - Rajputs founded. From this, the smaller principalities of Limbdi , Wadhwan , Chuda, Saila and Than-Lakhtar emerged through the division of inheritance . In the 16th century the area was conquered by the Mughals . Aurangzeb (1658–1707) gave the city of Halvad back to the Jhalas. The principality reached its modern form in 1735. 1807–1947 it was a British protectorate . Raj Sahib Ghanshyamsinhji Ajitsinhji (1911-1942) was raised to Maharaja in 1918 . Dhrangadhra 1941 had an area of 3022 km² and 102,000 inhabitants.

As part of the "attachment scheme" in 1943, almost 78,000 residents were added. On June 10, 1943, Thana Ramparda was integrated from the Chotila , followed by the dwarf states of Chuda, Lakhtar, Muli and Sayla on December 7th. On December 1, 1946, the Wadhwan-Bhoika-Thana (508 km²) was joined. This increased the area of the country to a total of 4780 km².

The Maharaja Mayirdhwajsinhji Meghrajji III. (1911-1956) operated after the withdrawal of the British (see History of India ) the amalgamation of the princely states of the peninsula to the Union Saurashtra , which was formed on August 15, 1947. On February 15, 1948 he joined India and was Ujrajpramukh (Deputy Head of State) of Saurashtra until 1952. On November 1, 1956, all princely states were dissolved and incorporated into the state of Bombay . With the partition of Bombay on May 1, 1960, Dhrangadhra came to Gujarat .
