Di shtifmuter is the title of a Yiddish silent film drama that was created by the Siła-kino film company , which the producer Mordka (Mordechaj) Towbin founded in 1908 in Warsaw, which was then part of the Russian Empire; it was released in cinemas in December 1911 under the Polish title Macocha .

background

The film was based on the play of the same name by Jakub Gordin (Yiddish: יעקבֿ גאָרדין). The recordings were made in Warsaw.

Neither the name of the director nor that of the photographer have survived. The former could have been Andrzej Marek, the latter Stanisław Sebel, who at the time was working as an operator for Siła-kino .

The film has not been preserved.

In 1914 Abraham Izaak Kamiński shot a remake of the material with the actors of his Yiddish theater under the same title at the Cosmofilm of Henryk Finkelstein .
