With a wingspan of 43 to 47 millimeters, the moths are among the large species of the subfamily of gold owls. The upper side of the forewings is colored nut-brown to purple-brown. Metallic shimmering flaws, which are typical for most gold owl species, are absent in this species. A pale gold-colored pollination can sometimes be seen near the apex in newly hatched specimens. The dark brown outer transverse line shows a V-shaped bulge near the front edge pointing in the direction of the apex. The hind wings are yellowish brown in color, have a dark brown center line and a slightly darkened hem area. The thorax is furry and provided with a thick tuft of hair. The abdomen has other smaller tufts of hair.
