Diacylglycerol- O -acyltransferase 2 ( DGAT2 ) is an enzyme from the metabolism of lipids .
properties
DGAT2 is an enzyme from the group of diacylglycerol-O-acyltransferases that is involved in the biosynthesis of triacylglycerides . It transfers an acyl group from acyl-CoA to diacylglycerol (as the last step in the biosynthesis of triacylglycerides) or retinol . In contrast to DGAT1 , DGAT2 is essential. GPAT2 is inhibited by niacin .
DGAT2 catalyzes the following reactions:
Acyl-CoA + 1,2-diacylglycerol = CoA + triacylglycerol
Acyl-CoA + retinol = CoA + retinyl ester
DGAT2 is involved in the development of fatty liver when the carbohydrate intake is too high .
