Diana is the tenth studio album by Diana Ross , which was released in May 1980 and gave Ross his international breakthrough at the time.

history

After the sales success of The Boss album , Diana Ross wanted a fresher, more modern disco sound for her next album. Fittingly shortly before that, Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers from Chic wrote some songs for Aretha Franklin , who turned them down and so Ross accepted the songs.

What initially turned out to be a grueling cooperation that dragged on, was completed despite disputes. Previously, Ross wanted to give up everything because of the effort.

Before it was released, the entire album was reworked: the funky elements of chic in the album were toned down a bit, the instrumental passages were shortened and the vocal part was given a brighter, more youthful sound. The work was carried out without the knowledge of the producers. The duo later unsuccessfully sued the Motown label for copyright infringement.

Diana was Ross's last album to be released by Motown for the time being . Over six million copies have been sold so far.
