Diana Melrose
Diana Melrose (* 1952 in Bulawayo , Zimbabwe ) is a British diplomat who has been her country's ambassador to Cuba since 2008 .
Life
Diana Melrose's parents are Audrey Sybil MacQueen and James Frederick Charles Melrose. Melrose studied Latin American Studies at the University of London and Spanish and French at King's College London . She worked as a translator. Her first assignments included interpreting for British-Cuban business negotiations. In the British Council she organized trips for professionals to Latin America . From 1980 she became involved with Oxfam UK Ireland, where she was program officer.
In 1982 she published her study on misuse of medicine in underdeveloped countries. In 1997 she was an advisor to the British Foreign Secretary in the New Labor Government. Melrose joined the foreign service in 1999. She has been the UK Ambassador to Cuba since 2008. She is the first woman to hold this post.
