Diane Martine James (born November 20, 1959 in Bedford ) is a British politician ( UK Independence Party , UKIP for short).

Life

James attended Rochester Grammar School for Girls and graduated from Thames Valley University . James was elected to the European Parliament in the 2014 European elections . There she was a member of the Committee for Internal Market and Consumer Protection . She joined the Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy Group .

On September 16, 2016, she won a UKIP primary election , which became necessary following the resignation of long-time UKIP chairman Nigel Farage . This made her the designated UKIP party leader. Eighteen days later, she announced that she would not take up the post of UKIP party leader "for personal and professional reasons"; for this she earned incomprehension and ridicule in public and in the media. On November 21, 2016 she announced her departure from UKIP.

She was a member of the Brexit Party from February 5, 2019 to July 1, 2019 .
