Diane Sands (born March 23, 1947 in St. Ignatius, Lake County , Montana ) is an American politician .

Life

After finishing school, Sands studied anthropology at the University of Montana and then studied at George Washington University in Washington . She is a member of the Democratic Party . From January 1997 to January 1999, Sands was a member of the Montana House of Representatives . Sands did not run again as a MP in the 1999 elections and moved to Oregon for professional reasons . Upon her return, she was re-elected to the Montana House of Representatives in 2006, where she has been in office since 2007. She was the first openly lesbian MP. Sands lives in Missoula with her partner Ann Mary Dussault.
