Dick Costolo (* 1963 ) was CEO of Twitter and its former COO from 2010 to 2015 . He assumed the office of CEO of Evan Williams in October 2010.

He received his bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Michigan and his master's degree from the University of California, Berkeley . Costolo studied acting while studying at the University of Michigan. He took acting classes to meet graduation requirements from the university. After graduating, he decided not to take offers from technology companies and moved to Chicago, where he worked as a stand-up comedian .

In 2004, Costolo founded the web feed provider FeedBurner with Eric Lunt, Steve Olechowski and Matt Shobe . After Google bought FeedBurner in 2007, Dick Costolo became an employee of the company. After the acquisition, Costolo worked in other areas of Google. He left Google in 2009 to join Twitter as its COO in September 2009. He became CEO of Twitter in 2010 because his predecessor Evan Williams was on paternity leave. During the representation, it became apparent that he would keep the post permanently.

On June 11, 2015, it was announced that Costolo was stepping down as CEO of Twitter on July 1, 2015. He is succeeded by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey .
