Dick Toering

Dick Toering (* 1958 in Almelo ) is a Dutch guitarist .

Career

Dick Toering studied with Willem van Lier at the Prins Claus Conservatorium Groningen. Toering plays classical and electric guitar and is a composer with a focus on contemporary, experimental and improvised music.

The classically trained guitarist Dick Toering played in various rock bands. The most important was Kleg , of which the second CD was produced by Lee Ranaldo , the guitarist of the band Sonic Youth . Other bands were Soom (with Ivo Bol, Henri Alles and Wim Sebo) and Lister, for whom Dick Toering composed most of the pieces himself.

What is striking in Toering's work is the combination of classical and electric guitar and composition: “Guitarist Dick Toering has the gift of indulging in musical beauty.” (Concertzender Amsterdam). "Toering makes extremely essential music that speaks directly ..." (Moors Magazine) Dick Toering has worked with various musicians and composers over the years, including David Dramm, Johanna Varner , Han Bennink , Meinrad Kneer and Keir Neuringer .

Toering's guitar style is characterized by analog sound effects and prepared guitar. Since 2009 Dick Toering has been playing in various ensembles with the Austrian cellist Johanna Varner . He also made numerous radio play recordings with Johanna Varner, directed by Horst Konietzny for Bayerischer Rundfunk . After the duo album fragile bones of music with Roland Graeter, he presented his solo album quiet music never ends in 2011 . Especially with the Boreas Duo with classical guitar and cello, Dick Toering has made numerous appearances in Germany, Austria and the Netherlands and has released a CD Boreas Duo: music for a while . Since 2013 he has been a member of the Dutch ensemble Klangwelt Station with Johanna Varner and the German double bass player Meinrad Kneer.

His first classical solo CD with music by Johann Sebastian Bach , Joaquín Rodrigo and Fernando Sor is due to be released in 2020 . He lives and works in the Dutch province of Groningen .
