The Dicle Dam ( Turkish Dicle Barajı ; Dicle is the Turkish name of the Tigris ) is located at the confluence of the two Tigris source rivers Maden Çayı and Dibni Çayı 40 km north of Diyarbakır in the Turkish province of the same name .
The Dicle Dam was built in 1991-2001 for the purpose of irrigation , energy generation and drinking water supply . It is operated by the state energy company Elektrik Üretim A.Ş. (EÜAŞ) operated. The barrier structure is a stone embankment dam with a clay core . The dam has a height of 75 m above the valley floor and a volume of 3.1 million m³. The associated reservoir dams the lower reaches of the two rivers Maden Çayı (in the west) and Dibni Çayı (in the east) and covers an area of 24 km². The storage space is 595 million m³. The Dicle Dam hydropower plant has two 55 MW turbines. The standard work capacity is 298 GWh per year. Upstream on Maden Çayı is the Kralkızı Dam .
