The Young Tenors were a vocal trio , ultimately consisting of the three tenors Hans Hitzeroth, Ilja Martin and Hubert Schmid .

Origin and musical impact

In 1997 the singers Bernhard Hirtreiter , Hans Hitzeroth and Thomas Kiessling were selected after an audition to record the title melody (Love is waiting) for the TV show Herzblatt . The moderation of the show had just changed from Rainhard Fendrich to the former opera singer Hera Lind . Originally only intended as a one-time studio trio, the idea of ​​merging pop and classical music with classically trained voices was continued. The group was named Hearts and Roses . You took part in the German preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest 1998 with the song You are a part of me . During rehearsals, the trio was renamed The Three Young Tenors . After a comparison with the three tenors , the name had to be changed to The Young Tenors . In 2001 the trio sang the song of the ARD television lottery Ein Platz an der Sonne . In January 2003 Thomas Kiessling left the group and was supplemented by the tenor Hubert Schmid. In this formation the CDs Viva Italia , Sons of Amor and Happy Christmas were released . At the end of 2006, Bernhard Hirtreiter left the group and was replaced by the Berlin tenor Ilja Martin. The first CD of the new formation ( Love wins ) was released in May 2007. Further CDs followed in 2009 and 2012.

After 14 years, Hans Hitzeroth and Hubert Schmid left their work with the Young Tenors at the end of 2017. The previous formation of the young tenors disbanded at the same time. The Berlin tenor Ilja Martin, who has been part of the formation since 2006, now continues the successful trio under the name "The 3 Young Tenors", with Carlos Sanchez from Dresden and Richard Neugebauer from Hamburg.
