The Straw Doll (original name: Woman of Straw ) is a British detective film from 1964 directed by Basil Dearden and starring Gina Lollobrigida and Sean Connery . The plot is based on the French novel La Femme de paille by Catherine Arley .

The young bon vivant Anthony Richmond tries, with the help of the nurse Maria, to get the inheritance of his wealthy, wheelchair-dependent uncle Charles Richmond. This had once driven Anthony's father to suicide.
Anthony's plan is for Maria to marry Charles Richmond and, after he dies, to inherit his fortune. A million pounds would be the profit for Anthony.
