Michael Relph

Michael Relph (born February 16, 1915 in Broadstone, Dorset , † September 30, 2004 in Selsey, West Sussex ) was a British film director and film producer .

Life

Michael Relph, son of the actor George Relph (1888-1960), worked from 1932 as assistant to the film architect on the design of the sets for several films. After the end of the Second World War, Relph became production manager and developed over many years a close collaboration with the director Basil Dearden , in all of whose films he was responsible for production. In addition, Relph worked in some cases on the script and also took over directing work, with Dearden then acted as a producer. After Dearden's death, Relph withdrew from the active role of producer for a few years and represented the film industry in professional organizations, before taking on the role of producer again for several films from the late 1970s.

At the Oscar ceremony in 1950 Relph was with Jim Morahan and William Kellner in the category Best Art Direction for Royal Love ( Saraband for Dead Lovers nominated).
