Die Taktstürmer is a German documentary by filmmaker Nico Sommer who observes three different Berlin musicians planning their careers to become professional musicians. The three-year long-term observation shows the complex and difficult path to get off to a successful start as a musician - at the beginning of a career as well as in the middle of it.
The film ran u. a. in the competition of the Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival 2011 and at the Spiegel tv Documentary Film Festival Open Documentation 2012.
action
Singer-songwriter Robert wants to try his hand at the pop business at the Amsterdam Academy of Music. But a few months later he was informed of the rejection by email. Thereupon he decides to expand and strengthen his speaking career. The cellist Nikolaus lives on the verge of subsistence and also tries to make smaller appearances in and around Berlin. He gets an offer to perform as support with the comedy duo Scratch in Australia. Back in Berlin he learns that his cello (umbra) has not yet been paid off. Anna is in her final year of high school and is busy rehearsing for her performances with her funk band. She confidently argues with her father about the right path and the right attitude to make it into the Popolymp. Anna is determined and yet she is repeatedly pulled back from her ambition by the resignations of some band members.
background
The observation of the three differently ambitious musicians was carried out by Nico Sommer over a period of 3 years. The shooting took place from 2008 to 2010. Director Nico Sommer accompanied the protagonists almost exclusively alone with an HDV camera. The last year of observation is currently woven into the film, which was completed in 2011, through text panels. The editing work lasted 6 months. The film is half of Nico Sommer's practical thesis at the Kassel Art College. The protagonists are to be observed on film until 2022. Anna Guder now works under the stage name Kiddo Kat with musicians like Frank Peterson, Tobias Held and Michael Grimm.
