The Defender is a German silent film melodrama from 1918 with Mady Christians in the leading role.

Linda Saltarin has worked as a Dr. jur. made a name for herself as a criminal defense attorney. Her most difficult case now takes her to her limits, because she is supposed to defend the alleged murderer of her fiancé. Felicie was a model for Rudolf, a young, talented painter, and at the same time was the lover of the defender's fiancé. Despite the personal concern, Linda gives everything to get Felicie free, because she has doubts about the guilt of the model who was left behind by her groom with a child. Eventually it turns out that Felicie is innocent of Rudolf's death because he killed himself.
Production notes
The defense attorney passed the censorship in May 1918 and was premiered in Berlin that same month. Depending on the cut, the film was 1,344 or 1,364 meters long, divided into four acts. A youth ban was issued.
