The two strangest days in Siegmund's life is a story by Ludwig Tieck , which appeared in Nicolai's collection “Straussfedern” in 1796 .

Siegmund, the aspiring young civil servant, does everything wrong and is also rewarded for it.

action

Sigmund, arriving in the strange town in the evening, accidentally stays in a better inn, but is otherwise lucky. From an open window in the house opposite, a pretty young girl nods in a friendly greeting. Sigmund would like to apply to the President as a civil servant - more precisely, as a councilor - the next morning. The future council crosses the nightly streets of the strange city a little. Shortly before returning to his inn, Siegmund witnessed a strange occurrence. An elderly gentleman seeks admission to that friendly, pretty young girl and is turned away. Siegmund laughs at the old man.

“Oh woe”, the next morning at the President’s house the rude awakening follows. The one who got a basket that Siegmund ridiculed is the president. Of course, the appointment to the council will no longer be an issue. But it's not all evening yet. For the day that has just begun, Siegmund lingers in the town and happens to come closer to that girl. The rejected advice can be helped. The beautiful child is namely a "joy girl" and, to please Siegmund, still gets involved with the president. Then Siegmund is free of all worries. Appointed straight away by the president to the council, Siegmund will in future live with the girl and the president "in greatest harmony".
