The musical tells of the relationship between a couple, Jamie and Cathy, who get to know each other, get married and split up after five years. Brown chooses an unusual narrative style: the plot is transported exclusively through fourteen songs, with hardly any spoken dialogues. Jamie and Cathy take turns in their songs. While Jamie tells the story of their relationship from the start, Cathy looks back, from their breakup to their first rendezvous. Only once, at the wedding, do the two narrative strands meet.
