The most beautiful railway lines in Germany was a regular television program that was broadcast on the night program of the First German Television (ARD) .

The program was not moderated, usually lasted a maximum of half an hour and only consisted of a ride in the driver's cab on railway lines throughout Germany . Sometimes, under the title The Most Beautiful Railway Lines in Europe or The Most Beautiful Railway Lines in the World , railway lines from all over the world were shown. At the beginning of the broadcast, a graphic showing the route was faded in and, as a rule, a short exterior shot of the starting station and / or the locomotive was shown. Then you saw the worn railway line from the driver's point of view . The view was always directly on the route traveled; there was no conceivable "pan" to an object / landscape next to the track (e.g. Cologne Cathedral or Rhine Valley). Longer passages through tunnels were mostly shortened, which was indicated by a corresponding display.

The program was first broadcast on September 3, 1995 and discontinued on October 28, 2013; Since then, the successors have been the “Pictures of Germany” created as a classic night loop if required . It was usually broadcast between 3:30 and 5:30 at night. The broadcast was a filling program to compensate for different lengths of films broadcast or any program changes. This ensured that the following day's program could always start at the scheduled time. At the time of the start of the next broadcast, the railroad broadcast was abruptly canceled without comment if necessary. The program was produced under the responsibility of the RBB and was broadcast by decision of the television program conference on 9/10. Discontinued September 2013. In 2013, an average of 80,000 people watched the program.
