action

The six-member Danish family Anderson is not very popular with their neighbors. This is felt most by her direct neighbor. A mailbox given to her by her nephew from America is often the victim of accidents caused by members of the Andersons. Other neighbors have long since fled.

So it has become a ritual for the Andersons to greet new neighbors. When Sune, the 11-year-old son of the Andersons Sofie, sees the new neighbor girl, he immediately falls in love with her. He seeks advice from Gergio and Birger. The two run a restaurant, but they can never agree on what should be served in this restaurant. Birger's specialty, and the only thing he can do, are hot dogs. Gergio really wants to serve pizza. The arguments between the two usually end with Birger getting a frying pan in front of her head. Gergio explains to Sune that women are into love gifts. And a chewing gum machine has just the right pair of earrings for this purpose. But first Sune has to get there because he doesn't have the money.

There is also the problem of vacation. Each of the Andersons has a different idea of where to go. The father wants to cheat with the decision and manipulates the sticks with which the holiday destination was usually drawn. But the family has seen through it, and so spin the bottle decides the holiday destination. After the forty-eighth attempt, because the father doubted the result, the mother always wins. And so the family wants to fly to Greece. But the flight costs are far too expensive. So it's only enough for an old rickety caravan.

Meanwhile, Sune tries to conjure up happiness. His little brother also finds some money and a scratch card . Sune thinks you won't win anything with a scratch card anyway. After several attempts, he manages to get the earrings for Sofie from the chewing gum machine. He then invites her to a fine restaurant. But he loses the gift on the way there. After many difficulties, Sune gets the present back, but Sofie is mad at him because he left her alone in the restaurant.

The Andersons want to go on vacation. But they won't get very far with the old caravan and their old car. Then the father discovers the scratch card and wins 50,000 Danish kroner. He invests the money in a new trailer, but since the car is still the same, they won't get very far this time either. And so, like every year, they end up at the nearby campsite. Sofie and her parents also go on vacation there. And so Sune can still give Sofie his present.
