Diego Ramón Jiménez Salazar (* 27 December 1968 in Madrid ), also known as El Cigala (which as much as langoustines means) is a famous Roma - Flamenco - singer . The stage name "El Cigala" was given to him by the guitar trio of the Losada brothers (not, as is often read, by Camarón de la Isla ).

Artistic career

One of his most famous albums is Lágrimas negras from 2003, which was created in collaboration with the then 85-year-old Cuban pianist Bebo Valdés . The combination of Cuban rhythms and flamenco singing made these recordings internationally successful.

El Cigala began as a street musician, sang in peñas (flamenco clubs) and tablaos (restaurants) and worked as an accompanist for flamenco dancers such as: B. Mario Maya , Faíco , Farruco , El Güito , Manuela Carrasco , Cristóbal Reyes , Carmen Cortés , Joaquín Cortés .
