Manuela Carrasco

Manuela Carrasco (* 1958 in Seville ) is a Spanish flamenco dancer.

Life and artistic career

Manuela Carrasco is the daughter of a family of flamenco artists. Her father is the dancer José Carrasco, known as El Sordo . At the age of eleven, she made her first appearance in La Cochera , one of the tablaos of Seville, the cabaret in which flamenco performances are performed every evening. When she was thirteen, she toured Europe. Her career as a soloist began at the age of sixteen at Tablao Los Canasteros , where she attracted public and critical attention.

At the age of 18 she was awarded the Pastora Imperio Prize for her performance at the national flamenco competition in Cordoba . In 1976 she won the international price for dance art in San Remo, Italy .

In her long career she has appeared in numerous performances, including:

In 1995 she appeared with a Soleá in Carlos Saura's film Flamenco , accompanied by the voice of José Mercé . She feels particularly connected to this form of flamenco:

In the Biennial of Seville in 2002, she presented, together with El Chocolate and Antonia La Negra , Esencias . Two years later she appeared with a premiere at this biennial: the play Tronío . With Un sorbito de lo sublime , she appeared at the Jerez Festival and the Caja Madrid and Jueves Flamencos de Sevilla festivals, among others .

Even today, 2015, Manuela Carrasco is still active as a dancer. At the festival Fire of Pamplona in August 2015 she danced together with Antonio Canales .
