action

The film tells the football career of the Argentinian Diego Maradona with a special focus on the time at SSC Napoli from 1984 to 1991. Numerous, partly previously unpublished film sequences and photos as well as recordings from the family's private archive are shown, by contemporary witnesses, historians and Maradonas Family and to be commented by Maradona herself. The 1986 World Cup and its rise in world football are also highlighted. In particular, the final round game between Argentina and England and his hand of God as well as the Falklands War, which was decided a few years earlier, are presented and explained. The game against Italy at the 1990 World Cup , with Maradona converting an important penalty in the Naples stadium and thereby killing the hosts from the tournament, is highlighted here with the consequences for Maradona.

Reviews

Ulrich Kriest in the film service thinks that the "brilliant documentary assembled with remote archive material and off-commentaries" combines "the images of Maradona's career into an emotionally gripping, albeit woodcut-like, pointed drama that ignores the time before and after his involvement in Naples" let. The TV magazine Prisma writes that the "outstanding" film biography "creates a closeness", "especially through the many recordings from the family's private archive [...] that has seldom been seen in a sports documentary". Regardless of all private glimpses, "the film still always maintains the balance between honoring a great athlete and honestly dealing with a tragic crash".
