history

AKO company founder: Paul Kolb

Paul Kolb founded Apparatebau Paul Kolb (AKO) in Eisenharz in 1945 . The company produced electronic fence devices. In 1950, AKO moved to a new building in Kißlegg . At that time AKO had 20 employees and an annual turnover of one million D-Marks. In 1955 the manufacture of heating devices and infrared emitters began. The third pillar was added in 1956: the electrical control for the first fully automatic washing machine, AEG -LAVAMAT. In 1962, AKO built a new plant in Wangen . The two locations operated relatively self-sufficiently: In Kißlegg, "hot" was produced - electrical appliances, electric fence devices and later the radiant heating for glass ceramic hobs - and in Wangen "cold", i.e. controls and regulations for household appliances.

In 1967 the Wangen site had 700 employees. As a result, Wangen became the company's headquarters a year later. At this point in time an annual turnover of 25 million DM was exceeded. The cooperation with AEG was strengthened by a 51% stake in AKO. An electronics department was also set up in 1968. Peter Kolb, son of the founder Paul Kolb, joined the company in 1978; from 1984 he ran it together with his father. Paul Kolb used structural changes at AEG-Telefunken to buy back the AEG shares in 1982. AKO was 100 percent family owned again. Paul Kolb died in 1993, his son Peter took over the sole management.

At the turn of the year 1994/1995, the AKO-Werke were incorporated into the Diehl Group .
