Dieter Becker (theologian, 1950)

Dieter Becker (born June 8, 1950 in Bünde ) is a German Protestant theologian. From 1993 to 2016 he was professor of intercultural theology , missions and religious studies at the Augustana University in Neuendettelsau .

Life

Becker studied Protestant theology in Bethel and Heidelberg and received his doctorate with a systematic theological thesis on Martin Buber and Karl Barth . He completed his habilitation in the history of religion and missiology at the University of Heidelberg. Becker was a lecturer at the Theological College of the Toba Batak Church in Pematang Siantar, Indonesia. He was also a member of the faculty at the South-East Asian Graduate School of Theology (SEAGST) in Singapore.

Becker was chairman of the German Society for Mission Studies (DGMW) , member of the Theological Commission of the Evangelical Missionary Work in Germany (EMW), member of the Commission for Theological Education of EMW and member of the board of trustees of the Mission Academy at the University of Hamburg .

He is editor of the series " Contributions to Mission Studies / Intercultural Theology " in LIT-Verlag (with Henning Wrogemann ) and " Churches in the World Society " in LIT-Verlag (with Andreas Nehring).
