Dieter Betz

Dieter Betz (born April 20, 1927 in Backnang ; † February 26, 2006 ) was a German geologist.

Betz studied geology and chemistry at the TH Stuttgart , where he received his doctorate and then worked as an assistant. In 1951 he went to the Brigitta Elwerath trade union in Hanover as a petroleum geologist , where he became the chief department manager for petroleum engineering and exploration director. He stayed in the oil industry until 1989 and in 1983 also had a lectureship in oil geology at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . He was early involved in the continental deep drilling program (KTB) as a member of the coordination committee at the Lower Saxony State Office for Soil Research, where he was the spokesman for the project group from 1989 to 1995. As part of the project, a deep borehole was sunk near Windischeschenbach .

Betz received the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany , in 1988 the Carl Engler Medal of the DGMK and the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Lower Saxony Order of Merit. He was an honorary member of the German Geological Society .
