history
Until the church is planted
The Windischeschenbach mission station was established around 950 by monks from the St. Emmeram monastery in Regensburg. 1605 the place was raised to the market. Windischeschenbach belonged for the most part to the imperial monastery Waldsassen . The place was divided by the Eschenbach, whereby the part of the place on the right bank was under the Duchy of Sulzbach and therefore belonged to Bavaria since 1777 and the part to the left of the Eschenbach belonged to Waldsassen. Since the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803, the entire place has belonged to Bavaria. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .
20th century
In 1952, on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of the town and parish, the market was elevated to the status of town. On September 22, 1987, the continental deep drilling (KTB) was started in Windischeschenbach .
Incorporations
On January 1, 1972, the previously independent communities of Bernstein, Naabdemenreuth and Neuhaus (with Dietersdorf, which was incorporated in 1945 or 1946) were incorporated.
Population development
Between 1988 and 2018 the population decreased from 5,785 to 4,960 by 825 inhabitants or 14.3%.
Surname
Until 1424 the place was only called Eschenbach. In order to distinguish it from Eschenbach further to the west , it was given the addition Windisch, as it was further east compared to the place of the same name and therefore closer to the Wendenland (Bohemia).
