history
Until the church is planted
Kirchenthumbach (1725 still Thumbach) was a nursing office before 1800 and belonged to the Amberg Rent Office of the Electorate of Bavaria . Kirchenthumbach has had market rights with important proprietary rights since the beginning of the 15th century . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .
Incorporations
In 1946 the municipalities of Metzenhof and Treinreuth and parts of the area of Moos were incorporated. On July 1, 1972, Sassenreuth was added. Neukreisendorf and Thurndorf followed on January 1, 1978, Heinersreuth on May 1, 1978.

In 2016, according to official statistics, there were no employees subject to social security contributions in the manufacturing sector or in trade and transport at the place of work. In other economic areas, 64 people were employed at the place of work subject to social security contributions. There were a total of 1,319 employees at the place of residence subject to social security contributions. There was one in the manufacturing sector and five in the construction sector. In 2010 there were 96 farms with an agricultural area totaling 3,018 hectares, of which 1,731 were arable land and 1,287 were permanent green areas.

From 1904 to 1969 (passenger traffic 1962) Kirchenthumbach was the terminus of the Pressath – Kirchenthumbach railway .
