The municipality includes the districts of Lanz and Störnstein with the confluence of the Girnitz and Floß rivers in the Naab .

history

Until the church is planted

The emergence of the community of Störnstein is linked to the history of Störnstein Castle (formerly Sternstein), today a ruin on the outskirts of Störnstein. Since the 12th century there has been documented information about this castle, which was located in the Nordgau , north of Weiden in the Upper Palatinate in the emerging diocese of Regensburg on an old trade route to Bohemia . During this time it was the eponymous seat of the imperial knight Stöhr (Stör, Stier, von Stöhren), a branch of the Lords of Murach , who built up a manorial estate around the castle, where there was a settlement of robotic residents in inheritance .

From the Stöhr castle and rule Sternstein came to the aristocratic family of the Pflugk von Rabstein and after these the noble free von Heydeck (Heideck) were owners of the rule Neustadt an der Waldnaab-Störnstein, which since 1355 was attached to the kingdom of Bohemia as a crown fief and thus directly imperial. Because of their participation in the Schmalkaldischer Bund , the Heideck were expropriated. The Guttenstein- Vrtba followed as owners of the fief and the associated income from the heirloom places. In 1575 Ladislav Popel von Lobkowitz received the rule for ten years from the emperor or the crown of Bohemia. In 1641, during the Thirty Years' War , Sternstein with Neustadt an der Waldnaab , Waldau, Waldthurn, Schönsee and a number of villages came into the hereditary possession of the Lobkowitz family as the Fürstete Grafschaft Störnstein . Since 1653 the Lobkowitz had a seat and vote in the Imperial Council of Princes and since 1742 in the Bavarian Imperial Council. In 1806, the princely imperial county of Sternstein was abolished and in 1807 the administrative seat of Neustadt an der Waldnaab was sold to the Kingdom of Bavaria under the Wittelsbachers .

As a result of an administrative reform, today's community was created with the community edict of 1818 .
